Rest assured, we at Trivia Bliss have put together a list of our very favorite trivia games available for the iPhone to help you find a new one you’d like to play. Below, you’ll find the names of 11 different iPhone trivia games we love, along with a brief description of how to play each game. Without further ado, let’s get to it.
Trivia Crack
First up, we’ve got Trivia Crack by Etermax. Trivia Crack has been an iPhone gaming sensation since its release in October 2013. In Trivia Crack, you can compete in a head-to-head trivia battle against a Facebook friend or a random opponent from around the globe.
There are six categories in Trivia Crack: art, entertainment, sports, science, history, and geography. Each of these categories are represented by a goofy character; for example, the art category is signified by Tina, a red paintbrush. Throughout the game, you spin Willy the Wheel to determine which category you’ll play for. Answer enough questions correctly, and you’ll receive a sticker showing the character of the category you’ve been playing for. Collect all six stickers, and you’ll win the game!
During gameplay, you have the chance to spend and earn coins and lives. These special tokens give you a chance to get hints and second chances while answering questions. They help to extend your turn, giving you an advantage over your opponent. As you accumulate wins, you’ll increase your Trivia Crack status by climbing the international leaderboard, available for all players.
Jeopardy! World Tour
If you’re a big fan of Jeopardy!, you ought to try your hand at Jeopardy! World Tour. This fun app, developed by the official Jeopardy Productions, takes the show’s premise and makes it more portable, so you can play solo on your phone.
Unlike on the television show Jeopardy!, Jeopardy! World Tour gives you multiple choices to choose from when answering. You’ll get three options to choose from to complete your “what is” question when responding to a clue from the game board.
After completing a certain game board, you can challenge a Facebook friend to complete the same game board and see if they can top your score. By winning one of these challenges, you can earn extra powerups to help you in future games. If your friends aren’t huge trivia fans, you can also choose to be matched against a player you don’t know.
Jeopardy! World Tour allows you to track your progress on a worldwide leaderboard. Check out how you measure up against players from all around the globe and watch as your rank ascends with every game you win!
Millionaire Trivia: TV Game
If you’re all about earning metaphorical money as you play your trivia, try your hand at Millionaire Trivia: TV Game. This app takes the premise of the hit syndicated game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and adapts it for your own digital and portable enjoyment.
In this game, you can work your way through multiple choice questions tiered by difficulty—for example, the $5000 question is intended to be easier than the $500,000 question. These questions don’t pertain to one single category; instead, they’re a mixed bag to provide you with an exciting, varied trivia game.
Additionally, Millionaire Trivia: TV Game gives you an out if you happen to be stumped on a question. You can use a lifeline to “ask the audience” for help on a question. This way, you aren’t automatically out if you don’t know any given answer.
On this app, you can play against yourself, a Facebook friend, or a random opponent from somewhere else in the world. You can choose your game difficulty by selecting a city to figuratively play from—each city features different prizes and has different stakes depending on how hard its questions are. See how many city levels you can make it through on Millionaire Trivia: TV Game and earn bragging rights while you polish your trivia skills.
Trivia Quiz Knowledge
Trivia Quiz Knowledge has a pretty similar premise to Trivia Crack: spin a wheel to determine which trivia category you’ll be playing for, answer a question with four possible choices, earn points for every correct answer you select.
The app features the following categories: sport, science and nature, art and literature, history, geography, and entertainment. With these six fun categories, there’ll be questions for everyone to answer, regardless of your own personal interests. They also occasionally give the option to choose a special, niche category, like music or football.
Trivia Quiz Knowledge allows you to keep track of your own statistics so you can try to beat your personal best. It’ll tell you how many games you’ve played and your personal best point value. The app also shows you visual representations of your successes answering for each category alongside the percentage of questions you’ve answered correctly and number of questions you’ve attempted. With these handy tools, you can work to improve your weak categories to become a better trivia maven.
Movie Trivia: Guess the Film
If you’re a big cinema fan, Movie Trivia: Guess the Film is an excellent iPhone trivia game for you. The app’s gameplay is simple: the screen will show you four images from a certain film, and you’ll have to spell out its name using a word bank to receive coins.
You can choose films to be quizzed on based on their genre (i.e. comedy, action, or horror) or the decade in which they were released (i.e. 1980s, 1990s, or 2000s). This way, you can work on your weak areas or be quizzed on a category you are very familiar with, depending on your mood. There are hundreds of film screenshots, so you’ll be able to play this game for hours and hours without getting bored.
Movie Trivia: Guess the Film is especially fun for people who excel with visual memory. If you’re struggling, you can receive a hint from the app—it’ll reveal a letter’s placement or eliminate one from the word bank to help you unscramble the film’s title, though you’ll have to give up some of your hard-earned coins to buy one.
Trivia.io
Trivia.io is a wonderful option if you like your trivia with a side of fun mini games. In Trivia.io, you answer multiple choice trivia questions, but with a twist: you must bet on your answer, and you do so by using the app’s 3-D animated interface.
That’s right—in Trivia.io, you wager small, animated character icons on the answer you think is most likely correct. If your answer is right, your people get to live to see another day; if not, a trap door opens up and they drown in the pool that’s animated underneath the questions. Pretty morbid, we know, but it’s a fun cartoon effect that keeps the game entertaining day after day.
Trivia.io promises to help you boost your brain power with its unique questions and premise. With over 17 million downloads, it’s a popular option for a fun digital trivia experience on the iPhone. Plus, it has thousands of individual trivia levels, so you’ll never run out of trivia questions to keep your mind engaged.
Heads Up!
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past decade, you’ve surely heard of the charades-like trivia game Heads Up!. Made by Ellen DeGeneres, Heads Up! is sure to liven up any party or casual hangout.
Note: this game is not meant for single player gameplay, so grab a friend or a group to get a game going. However, not every player needs to download the app to enjoy it—during gameplay, one single phone will be passed around the room. (Alternatively, Heads Up! offers an option to play over Facetime with long distance pals, so no worries if your friends live far away.)
First, arrange your group so that everyone has a clear view of once another. Next, decide which player will go first. Once you’ve settled on which player will start, open the app, and choose a category “card deck”. These decks could be themed around a certain famous franchise, like The Avengers or Harry Potter, an upcoming holiday, or something more general, like celebrities or food.
Then, the selected player will hold the phone up to their forehead to begin the game. A word or phrase pertaining to the chosen deck will appear on the screen, and the other player or players will give the selected player verbal trivia clues to help them guess the word or phrase. The idea is that this player will not be able to see the words flashing on the screen, hence the phone’s funny placement.
The selected player will tilt the phone down once they guess correctly to reveal a new card and help them accumulate points. If they can’t guess the word or phrase correctly, they can tilt the phone upwards to skip the question, although it’ll cost them points.
Did we mention all this is happening on a timer? A ticking noise sounds as gameplay occurs to up the pressure. Once time is up, the player passes the phone along to another so that they can have a turn, and so on and so forth until everyone who wants to play has gotten a try. Whoever guesses the most words or phrases correctly wins the game! A win is dependent on the quality of spontaneous trivia clues given by the other players, so make sure you’ve got a good group to increase your chances of Heads Up! success.
Heads Up! costs $1.99 on the Apple App Store, plus more for specialized category, but it’s a small price to pay for the hours of fun the game will bring.
