Trivia Crack is a popular trivia game app available for Android and Apple users that was first released in 2013. Since its release, the game has been downloaded over 500 million times. Chances are you are familiar with Trivia Crack yourself! It was so popular, it was even made into a board game! It’s a trivia game that follows the classic Trivial Pursuit model. There are six different categories that you can answer questions in.
Trivia Crack offers different playing modes. The Classic mode is basically a game of Trivial Pursuit in real time against random opponents (or friends!), or solo play. In the Play Off mode, each round is timed and you’re playing against real opponents. In Survival mode, you compete against eight other players. Triviatopics allows you to choose your category, and Triviathlon gives you randomly generated questions. You can find out even more fun facts about the app here.

Etermax was able to take the success of the first game and build on it with Trivia Crack 2, also available on Android and iOS. Everything that you liked about the first Trivia Crack was improved in Trivia Crack 2. Thus the difference between the two apps is noticeable, but not vast. It’s rare for a company to release an updated game and experience continuous success with both. You can still play Trivia Crack and enjoy it without the need to upgrade to Trivia Crack 2.
The apps are interchangeable, but any player can also download and play both games. They have different questions, and the second game has a variety of added features that we will discuss in this article. So, what’s the purpose of maintaining both apps? The only logical answer is that Trivia Crack and Trivia Crack 2 have been so successful that they continue to make money for Etermax to this day. Thus the second game is not only treated as an upgrade, but rather an addition to the original. In fact, the original Trivia Crack still ranks higher in the app store, so getting rid of it would make no sense.
Play Modes
We briefly mentioned the modes featured in Trivia Crack above. To refresh your memory, they are Classic, Play Off, and Survival modes. You can play against real opponents in real time, and alone in solo play. Triviatopics and Triviathlon are additional challenges present in the game. They are meant for solo play, where you focus on answering questions in your own time and keep playing until you get one wrong.

Trivia Crack 2 has some additional modes. For starters, we have Classic, just like in the original game. Once again, we have the same six categories. Another mode is called Daily Challenge. It’s a single player game where you get to pick the topic you like and play until you get a question wrong. The last mode is called Tower Duel. If you choose that, you get matched up with a random opponent, pick one category, and answer questions until you get one wrong. You have to answer questions in all categories; your answers are then compared to the answers of your opponent.
Price
Both apps are free. You can download them on your Apple or Android device without paying any money. However, free apps come at a price: ads. If you don’t mind seeing ads after every game, won and lost, then you’re in luck. In the opposite case, you can pay for premium to get rid of ads.

With premium subscription come perks. Both games allow you to purchase boosts and power-ups that will make the game easier. Ad free games are obviously more enjoyable too. Trivia Crack is currently offering 79 right answers for $29.99. Trivia Crack 2 is offering VIP subscription starting at $4.99 monthly.
Ads
Trivia Crack is a free app, so it has ads. The ads are quite aggressive and annoying at times. As with most apps, you can pay to remove them if you’d like. Otherwise, prepare to watch an ad after virtually every game or every question you get wrong. According to reviews, not many people choose to pay to get the ads removed, even though they are quite annoying.
Etermax took the feedback about ads to heart and made the ads in Trivia Crack 2 a little less aggressive. At first, you won’t see any ads at all. New players are sheltered from ads until they’ve played a few games. However, it’s still a free app and there are still ads. You can’t get rid of them completely, unless you pay, of course!
User Experience
The user experience underwent some reconstruction in the second version of the game. Trivia Crack 2 came with an in-game character that guides the player through the game. The character helps avoid any confusion by explaining what each button and icon is for. When the character is speaking, the rest of the screen is gray. That allows the player to focus on what the character is saying instead of the screen.
Fun
Trivia Crack took the question and answer format to the next level. Even though trivia in itself can be quite fun, it rarely makes for a long game. You need some elements of strategy or gameplay to dilute the trivia and make it more interesting. That’s what Etermax did in both games.
Trivia Crack has some game modes that make the game worth playing. It increases the playability of the game, making each game somewhat unique and interesting. Trivia Crack 2 does an even better job at providing entertainment to its players. Thus, each player has a choice. You can play alone or get matched up with a random opponent. Play a quick speed round or get in the long game. Answer questions in your favorite category or try your luck at everything.

As you keep going, you get to discover new depths of Trivia Crack 2. You can become the best player on the leaderboard, participate in daily quests, and collect tokens. Players are always encouraged to keep playing with new updates and fresh game modes.
Variety/Depth of Questions
Data from 2015 showed that Trivia Crack had around a million active questions at the time. There were approximately 2,000 new questions added each day. How could you ever get bored with a million questions? Going through all of them would take a few years of active playing. Trivia Crack made it easy to create new questions, as players can add their own. That makes the game more fun for those who want to share their questions, as well as those who get to answer them.
Each question goes through some stages of approval and needs to be voted on by real players. If your question hasn’t gotten any votes, it could be because it doesn’t measure up to the standards of Trivia Crack. In this category, it’s tough to decide which game is better. Both have a wide variety of questions spread among six different categories. Both virtually never run out of questions to ask you, so keep playing!
Replayability
The replayability of Trivia Crack 2 is just as good as that of Trivia Crack. It’s hard to decide which game is better. Both games offer layers upon layers of fun. What makes Trivia Crack 2 so unique is its added features and game modes. If you get bored of the play modes, you can participate in daily challenges and crush your local leaderboard. Once you’ve conquered that, move on to the global rankings!
Etermax stepped it up and made Trivia Crack 2 very replayable. Chances are you won’t run out of questions and you’ll continue to discover new features of the game. There’s something new every single day, so don’t skip a day of trivia fun!

The Bottom Line
At the moment, Trivia Crack ranks higher in the app store than Trivia Crack 2. Could that mean that the original is better than the sequel? It’s hard to make a definitive decision regarding this battle. Even though Trivial Crack 2 clearly built on the success of the original Trivia Crack, both games are widely and almost equally successful. As for me, the original Trivia Crack continues to take the cake. After years of playing both games consistently, I realize that Trivia Crack has the better play modes, in my opinion. I particularly enjoy Survival mode, which is not present in Trivia Crack 2. That’s not to say that Trivia Crack 2 is any worse; it’s just different!
