Trivia Crack was launched in 2013. The trivia game app really rose to fame in 2015, when Maximo Cavazzani, the CEO of Etermax, admitted to having around 20 million daily users. The element that made the game unique was user contributions. To this day, users are allowed and encouraged to submit their own questions and rate other people’s questions. As a result of user contributions, there are new questions circling the Trivia Crack world every day and players never run out of questions to answer.
In 2021, things are not looking as great as they did six years ago. More and more users are starting to get annoyed by the large amount of ads that pollute the game. You can’t get a question wrong without having to watch an unskippable ad after. Players are starting to resign from the game and switch to alternatives with fewer ads. There are no longer coupon offers for key in-app purchases. What does that mean for Trivia Crack? Is it facing the beginning of the end? Let’s find out!
Is Trivia Crack Shutting Down?
At first sight, it may seem as though Trivia Crack is not doing too well. If we take a closer look, we find out that a lot has been going on in the Trivia Crack universe. For starters, the year that has been incredibly difficult on professionals in most industries, as well as individuals, has actually been quite fruitful for Etermax and its CEO.
Since the entire world was forced to stay home for a few months, the number of players in Etermax increased by 20%. Etermax took the opportunity to release eight new games in 2020. Of course, not all of them were great hits. Words & Ladders and Trivia Cars are honorable mentions though, as both reached 1.5 million downloads in the first month. As a result, Etermax’s user base grew by 120% in 2020.
In an interview with Venture Beat, Cavazzani admitted that Etermax is expanding and their plans for the coming years are grandiose to say the least. Even though monetization through ads is a risky business, it’s what’s been keeping the company profitable for ten years now. Sure, some people may go, but most will stay. Those who are committed to trivia with no ads can splurge on Trivia Crack (No Ads). It’s only a few bucks and it’s a one time purchase.
To answer the above question, no, Trivia Crack is not shutting down. It’s doing the exact opposite of that and expanding. Fans of Etermax can expect new releases soon. In the meantime, we can all enjoy the numerous games 2020 brought, such as Trivia Crack Cards and Word Crack. If you’ve gotten the chance to play these games, you might have noticed that some of them have very little to do with trivia. Etermax is diversifying its portfolio and targeting different markets. If that’s not a sign of a successful brand, I don’t know what is!
Is Trivia Crack Still Popular?
Etermax, the parent company of Trivia Crack, has been all over the news this summer. Trivia Crack was the developer’s breakthrough game and it’s still the most commercially successful one to this day (so much so that it spawned a sequel). Unfortunately, answering this question about Trivia Crack’s popularity using metrics is nearly impossible. The developers can choose to share what they want to share, and statistics regarding the game’s player count is not a part of that. However, multiple news articles are hinting at the fact that the game is doing better than ever.
This July, Etermax released a set of NFT collectables featuring notable in-app characters that players could obtain through a Trivia Crack tournament. The tournament held from July 9th until July 12th rewarded its winner with a unique TriviaToken. Players were encouraged to keep playing for the whole duration of the tournament at no additional cost. Though Etermax is not the first gaming company to enter the world of NFT, it is certainly very successful at it.
A month later, Etermax announced a new partnership with Skillz, an online multiplayer game platform. Through this partnership, Etermax is trying to expand its reach and do something different. The resulting Trivia Crack game will be exclusive to the platform and it will offer real-life prizes. According to Cavazzani, Trivia Crack will be the first trivia game app to do that!
That same month, Etermax decided to get off the beaten path and announce a partnership with Mattel. The two brands announced the launch of a new Trivia Crack board game! (Not to be confused with their short-lived board game from a few years ago.) It may seem counterintuitive to target board game players when smartphone apps are a step forward. Don’t worry, Mattel and Etermax made an effort to stay with the times and make the game interactive for today’s kids by adding a unique Instagram filter. It’s not clear whether this was a step in the right direction, but it was a step nonetheless.
Having the funds and investors to support all these new projects must mean something. The times might be changing, but Trivia Crack is still popular. We all know how well the app is doing, but we will have to see if the game will be as successful on other platforms.
How Many Users Does Trivia Crack Have?
The game notably surpassed 300 million downloads in 2017. Today, four years later, Trivia Crack is still enjoying great success and popularity. Since 2017, the game has at least doubled its download count, surpassing 600 million downloads. Trivia Crack boasts over 150 million active users every year.
Final Words
With the decline of popular trivia platforms like HQ Trivia, QuizUp, Trivia Crack Kingdoms, and most recently Trivia Royale (despite there being many others that have taken their places) people are bound to have questions. Many players have turned away from their favorite game because of the crazy amount of ads, as well as some of the bugs and glitches. However, Maximo Cavazzani doesn’t seem too bothered by that fact. It’s a business and he’s got to make money somehow. All the new projects Etermax has been working on can attest to the brand’s commercial success.
As of now, Trivia Crack is not going anywhere! On the contrary, expect to see more of your favorite game on different platforms, as well as upgraded versions of the games (like Trivia Crack 2 – VIP Membership), and new Trivia Crack spin-offs (like the fun new Trivia Crack Adventure and the money-making Trivia Crack Payday) in the App Store and Google Play. There’s even a new Netflix TV series based on the popular app! Are you still playing? Are you looking forward to any of the new game formats? If so, which ones?
