Etermax is a game developer that was founded in 2009. They scored in 2013 when they released the first version of Trivia Crack. The game went viral and proved to be a commercial success. It didn’t take Etermax long to build a real Trivia Crack kingdom with multiple different versions of the game. There are currently four active apps that you can download and play. While each has its own unique selling proposition, they all fit within the same universe, with familiar characters, themes, and color schemes.
As of January 2024, you can download Trivia Crack, Trivia Crack 2, Trivia Cars, and Trivia Crack Adventure. Trivia Crack Kingdoms was another venture from Etermax, but did not prove to be as successful as its predecessors, and has since been removed from the App Store and Google Play. Trivia Crack games are commonly played on smart devices such as smartphones and tablets. Some of the games also feature web apps that you can access through your web browser of choice. Finally, many people choose to play on Facebook.
The aesthetic of the apps makes them look very appealing to children. But, how suitable for children are they? Most of Etermax’s apps feature a 4+ rating, meaning they are suitable for players from the age of four. However, if you’ve ever played Trivia Crack yourself, you know that some questions are far too difficult even for adults. Let’s dissect all Etermax’s Trivia Crack games and find out which one is best suited for kids!
1. Trivia Crack
Trivia Crack is the blueprint. If there is any one game on this list that can be recommended to everyone—it’s this one. The game can be great for kids because of its number of different play modes. Kids can play with friends and family in real-time, promoting healthy competition. It is also easy to play alone or with random opponents from all over the world. Opponents are allowed to message each other. If you don’t want your child to be in contact with strangers, encourage them to play against the clock and try to beat their record, or become their online opponent!
The best thing about Trivia Crack’s algorithm is that it adjusts to your level of knowledge. The game starts by giving you easy questions that most people can tackle. As you keep playing, the questions may get more difficult to challenge you. Kids won’t start getting harder questions until they’re ready, which makes Trivia Crack the best Etermax game for young players.
It is worth mentioning that the game allows for in-app purchases, where kids can spend real money on virtual upgrades. They will also be exposed to ads that may be inappropriate. Though there is no explicit nudity or violence in Trivia Crack, some questions may be too difficult and concern topics your kids are not familiar with.
2. Trivia Crack 2
Trivia Crack 2 is very similar to Trivia Crack. You can play trivia games against strangers and friends on Facebook, you can chat with your opponents, and you get to invite new players into the game. It boasts the same 4+ rating as all other Trivia Crack games, but most parents would rate it 10+. While there is no nudity, violence, or offensive language in the game, some elements of it may be unsuitable for children. Most of the questions are child-friendly, but some could be confusing to small kids, like one about President Clinton having an affair. In addition to that, players can spend real money on in-app purchases, setting their parents back tens or even hundreds of dollars.
Despite everything mentioned above, the game looks like it would be perfect for children. It boasts a user-friendly interface with cartoon characters that your kids will love. The rules of the game are very easy and don’t need to be explained; your kids will get the hang of it after a couple of games. While some of the questions may prove to be too tough, there is also a wide variety of trivia suitable for children. You can view the game as a learning experience for your kids who want to educate themselves and pick up some new facts for the school year ahead. While nothing can beat Trivia Crack, Trivia Crack 2 is a close second.
3. Trivia Cars
Trivia Cars follows the same basic concept as Trivia Crack—answer trivia questions correctly to beat your opponent. In this game, each player is represented by a car that is driving towards the finish line. Whoever gets there first, wins. Answer questions right to get there. The principle is the same as in Trivia Crack: compete against friends or strangers on the internet in real-time, and answer questions about history, geography, science, and more.
The upside of this game is that it’s very intuitive and easy to follow. The design suggests the game is geared towards kids, though the questions can be a bit difficult at times. On the other hand, players are exposed to ads and in-app purchases. There is no violence in the game, except for the minor car crash you must witness when you lose a game. Though it’s not bad for kids, it is just a bit boring, which is why it lands third place on this list.
4. Trivia Crack Adventure
Trivia Crack Adventure is the third Trivia Crack game and it’s just like a real board game in a virtual space. Visually, it is very appealing to children. However, some elements of it may be confusing. In single-player mode, the game is not explained very well before you start making moves, so you must do a little bit of guessing. The dual-player game is very attractive visually but may be more boring than it looks. Because players must wait for their opponent to make their move, the game may take way longer than a couple of minutes, leading kids to lose interest and look for alternative sources of entertainment.
The worst part of any Trivia Crack game for adults is the ads. It is the same for kids. Nothing is threatening in terms of the questions, visuals, or language used. The ads, however, are abundant and very annoying. Players are encouraged to watch more ads to earn game currency or lives. As a parent, you have no control over the ads your child will be watching. At the same time, young players may get bored of watching ads quickly, causing them to turn away from Trivia Crack Adventure. After all, the game is not as good as other Etermax games anyway.
Honorable Mention: Trivia Crack Kingdoms
Trivia Crack Kingdoms deserves an honorable mention, even though the game has been discontinued. Unlike other Trivia Crack games, where you must answer the questions you’re given, Kingdoms allowed players to choose the categories they were interested in. Each category was a so-called kingdom that players could join.
Compared to other games on this list, Trivia Crack Kingdoms was the least suitable for kids. When you look at it from an educational point of view, it is more beneficial to children to answer questions about geography and history, thus simultaneously learning about these topics. Picking Fortnite or Justin Bieber as your category will do little for your general education. Besides, we can only assume that many of the categories would not have been suitable for small children to begin with.
It is unclear why Trivia Crack Kingdoms was discontinued. Perhaps the game was not as commercially successful as the developers had hoped. Find out more about the game here.
The Bottom Line
All Trivia Crack games look like they would be perfect for kids, but they all feature unsuitable elements, to say the least. One of the most annoying things that all Etermax games have is ads. Not only can you not control the quality of the ads your kids watch, but they can also take away the momentum and make the game boring. In-app purchases are a threat too, but only to your wallet.
The original Trivia Crack is the best Etermax game for children. That’s where the rules of the game are properly explained, the interface is most user-friendly, and there is the largest variety of questions. While your kids may come across topics and questions they are unfamiliar with, there is almost no chance a question will be offensive or inappropriate.
