The Trivia Factory

Founded in Atlanta in 2011, The Trivia Factory now hosts trivia nights in over 100 venues across 15 states.

They have a standard format that includes 24 questions. The topics vary, and can even include visual handouts, with the whole quiz taking just under 2 hours.

What do I really like about The Trivia Factory? Their bonus round (the last of the night) allows teams to wager as many points as they dare, leading to a frenetic and unpredictable leaderboard! Their online calendar is easy to peruse and includes links to all of the venues that you can attend.

So who is this good for? Pretty much everyone can enjoy a fun night with The Trivia Factory. The questions are incredibly varied meaning that they don’t favor one demographic over another.

Pub Trivia USA

This Illinois-based trivia company provides trivia events at restaurants and bars across 7 states nationwide (California, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin). The quiz format is simple, with 20 questions across 2 rounds covering a range of categories. Don’t be put off by the old-school website, Pub Trivia USA is incredibly popular!

What’s cool about Pub Trivia USA? Pub Trivia also has tournaments with huge cash prizes for the winners. Each time you play, your scores are collected and put into a Trivia League. What isn’t so cool? There is no limited team size – this could be unfair to smaller groups.

King Trivia

Created in SoCal in 2004, King Trivia now hosts over 75 weekly shows across California. They have also recently expanded to cover Denver, Dalles, NYC, and Boston. So how does it work? The game consists of 7 rounds and includes a Guess Who round, General Knowledge, and Picture rounds.

King Trivia also holds a league similar to Pub Trivia USA which runs over 35 weeks. And it offers a cash prize of $10,000 – not too shabby!

America’s Pub Quiz

I couldn’t find any information online as to the origins of America’s Pub Quiz but no bother! What do we know? They host pub quizzes across 8 states (California, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin).

The quiz has 3 questions per round, and 6 rounds in total across 2 hours. It isn’t rapid fire- and you can take your time to answer the questions. America’s Pub Quiz seems to be slightly less competitive than the other options on this list and is much more focused on the social aspect of the event.

Geeks Who Drink

Other than the awesome name, Geeks Who Drink has a lot to offer the trivia geek that lives in us all! Founded in Denver, you can attend a Geeks Who Drinks quiz at over 800 pubs and restaurants in 46 states. The quiz runs through 8 rounds of 8 multimedia questions in 2 hours and team sizes are limited to 6 (YES!). Music and movies/tv-shows are covered in each quiz, but the topics for the remaining 6 rounds can vary.

Geeks Who Drink also offers themed quizzes throughout the year that are pay-to-play. If you are a whiz at Harry Potter or Game of Thrones then you could leave with an amazing cash prize.

Virtual Trivia Night Companies

With Covid-19 going nowhere for the foreseeable future, virtual trivia nights are on the rise for those who prefer to stay at home. We have compiled a list of the best virtual trivia night companies for your next night in!

Brainstormer Trivia

Offering 1 quiz per week, Brainstormer Trivia virtual quiz nights last around 2 hours and have 4 rounds. Zoom is the communication channel of choice with multiple households able to join to create one team. It costs $10 per team member and there are prizes for the top teams. You can find a list of their upcoming events here.

Game ON!

Game ON! Virtual Trivia Night offers Super Trivia Thursdays, a self-proclaimed ‘smorgasbord of trivia’. Each quiz lasts around 90 minutes and the questions are multiple-choice with 30 seconds to provide your answer. You can play as a team but only one person inputs the answers- so it isn’t the solution for those who want to play as one team from different locations. At $4.99, it is certainly an affordable way to spend the evening.

Sporcle

Sporcle is a fun trivia company that is offering virtual trivia nights every day at times to suit most time zones, making this definitely the smoothest operation on our list. Sporcle offers options of 1 or 2-hour quizzes so you can pick which option best suits you and your friends! Prices start at $5 per person and games are hosted on, you guessed it, Zoom!

NYC Trivia League

Pivoting from physical to online events as a result of the pandemic, NYC Trivia League is running online virtual quiz nights 3 times a week over Instagram Live meaning that non-NYC residents can also participate!

EventBrite

Yes, EventBrite is an event sign-up page but…you can easily search for Trivia Nights and themes. If you are looking for a specific date, you can certainly find a trivia night on EventBrite to suit.

Trivia Hosts

The event can run from 45 minutes to 2 hours and they can also facilitate the team organization – avoiding any awkward work moments!

Funny Business

Funny Business is a hosting agency that offers a range of potential trivia night hosts for you to pick from. They will work with you to choose appropriate questions and categories and have years of experience in the corporate trivia world (yes – such a thing exists!). Keep in mind – these might be pricey as Funny Business will also take a commission of the overall price.

District Trivia

Based in the DC Metro area, the folks at District Trivia live for quizzes! With over 70 hosts to choose from, you will certainly find the right mix for your event. They also offer hosts for virtual events so you don’t need to worry about social distancing.
