HQ Trivia was once an iconic trivia game app that provided high-quality entertainment and cash prizes to players in the US, UK, and other countries. Unfortunately, the game fell off its pedestal as quickly as it rose to fame, leaving the fans with (almost) nothing. Since recently, you can only play HQ Trivia once a week, on Thursdays. The developers claim that new updates are coming and players have something to look forward to. Meanwhile, players haven’t gotten their minuscule payouts in months.
If it’s not clear yet, HQ Trivia is nothing like it used to be. Perhaps it’s time to look for substitutes. Though HQ Trivia has been a clear leader in its niche for some time, it is no longer offering significant prizes or frequent game times. To ease the transition from HQ Trivia to other apps, we’ve gathered some alternatives that you can try instead!
Swagbucks Live
Those who are not new to this business will be surprised to find out that Swagbucks Live is still around! One of the original apps for making money off trivia is actually still doing pretty well. This app reminds me of HQ Trivia back in its heyday. Swagbucks Live releases a quiz every single day, giving players the opportunity to win money. The premise is exactly the same as in HQ Trivia. Each quiz has 10 questions ranging from very easy to very difficult. If you manage to answer all of them correctly, you will split a cash prize with all the other winners.
The app doesn’t stop at the money. You can also earn Swagbucks! Though Swagbucks are not very useful in real life, you can use them to buy your way back into the game. Even though Swagbucks is one of the most reliable apps that make you money, you won’t become a millionaire overnight playing Swagbucks Live. The reviews are overwhelmingly positive, though users do point out that the questions have become harder, making winning real money almost impossible. Swagbucks Live also has to fix some bugs to make the app run smoothly.
Givling
Available on iOS.
Givling is an app that has a different message from HQ Trivia. The main goal of playing is to get your student loans paid. With Givling, it’s a real possibility! As you keep playing, you can earn Givling points. Givling points send you to the top of the queue, and if you get to the very top you can actually get a part of your mortgage or student loans paid off. Of course, it’s still a hard task, as you’ll find many people are using the app at the same time. Unfortunately, it seems as though the app is in decline, as it’s been deleted from the Google Play store.
The way the game is played is quite different from HQ Trivia. When you enter the game, you are put into a group of three with two random players. Until the end of the game, you are a team and your success depends on the success of your team members. Answer true or false trivia questions until you run out of time or get one wrong. The best team gets to split a cash prize.
This app is an interesting alternative to HQ Trivia. There are two quizzes every day, so you have plenty of opportunities to play and win. Though the game is quite different from the original format of HQ Trivia, it is fun nonetheless.
ProveIt
Available on iOS.
ProveIt doesn’t focus on trivia only, but it offers other games, such as solitaire, puzzles, and more. Because of the variety of games, anyone can find what they like and play trivia for real money. The way it works is pretty simple. You can compete in one-on-one games and multiplayer tournaments to win some cash. ProveIt frequently adds new games to the app, so you will never get bored.
The game is still quite new, so it hasn’t gathered many reviews just yet. Many users seem to be complaining about bugs and inconsistencies in the game. The developers have been accused of using bots and scamming people out of money, though this has not been confirmed. Users agree that you do have a real chance to win money, but don’t expect lots and lots. It’s a fun game to play for the sake of it, but it’s far from a side hustle.
KO Trivia
Available on Android.
KO Trivia is a free trivia app for Android that lets you win coins and redeem them for real money. In order to win money, you need to participate in trivia tournaments. If you last the longest and answer the most questions, you can win some KO coins. Those coins can later be transferred into real cash prizes and other prizes from KO Trivia.
Though the app still exists, some people have said that it is no longer active. We’re not sure if the developers have taken a vacation or abandoned the app completely, but it is still available for download. You will find a number of positive reviews on the app’s Google Play page, as well as some reviews claiming the game is too glitchy to enjoy. Based on the earlier reviews, KO Trivia does offer frequent payouts.
What Happened to the Others?
You might have noticed that this list of legit trivia live stream apps is much shorter than it used to be. The reason for that is because many apps were discontinued. Apps like Total Trivia, Halftime Live App, and Out of Tune have all been discontinued. Supposedly, the apps were getting too many bad reviews and didn’t have the funds to keep up the maintenance, which only led to more bad reviews.
Final Words
It seems that HQ Trivia is not the only trivia app that’s facing a crisis. The whole industry is not doing well, with falling profits and bad reviews. Do you participate in trivia tournaments often? Have you ever won and been able to cash out your winnings? Do you know any trivia game apps with real cash prizes that we failed to mention? Please let us know in the comments!
